AI Slowdown supports the continued development of artificial
intelligence and recognizes its potential to improve lives, expand
knowledge, strengthen businesses, and help solve difficult problems.
Supporting AI, however, does not require accepting unlimited speed,
inadequate safeguards, or the loss of meaningful human oversight.
The purpose of AISlowdown.com is to encourage a thoughtful pause in
the race toward increasingly powerful artificial intelligence. That
time should be used to evaluate risks, establish sensible boundaries,
improve security, and build stronger protections against criminals,
hostile governments, and other bad actors.
The objective is not to stop artificial intelligence. It is to make
sure humanity remains capable of directing it, correcting it, and
stopping it when necessary.
AI Slowdown is currently an independent effort operated by one person
with limited resources. I am interested in communicating and working
with researchers, technology professionals, writers, public-interest
organizations, policymakers, and others who believe that responsible
AI development requires human judgment and effective safeguards.

Why Slowing Down Does Not Mean Stopping
An introduction to AI Slowdown
The debate over artificial intelligence is often presented as a
choice between rapid technological development and opposition to
progress. There is another position: continue developing useful AI,
but proceed carefully enough to understand where it is leading and
maintain the ability to control it.
Future essays will examine human oversight, AI security, dangerous
uses, corporate responsibility, regulation, and practical ways to
preserve the benefits of artificial intelligence without ignoring
its risks.
